ARTIST

2016

I found some decaying leaves. Their ‘flesh’ had gone leaving a delicate pattern of veins. I attempted to replicate their complexity by pouring paint onto paper, letting it dry, then cutting out the shapes and patterns I saw. The colors are based on the environment around me – some natural, some not, some garish, some bright, some dark.

Once done the works took on a life of their own. These complex organic worlds seem to float aimlessly. Look carefully and inside each one there is a butterfly. Are these butterflies trapped or are they the rulers of these kingdoms? Through lighting shadows are cast revealing a fleeting world full of dark secrets.
